Password Protect WP-Admin

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 251 views

This feature allows you to add an extra layer of security to your wp-admin login screen by setting a separate password screen.

This way, you can prevent brute force attacks on your wp-admin login screen and unauthorized access to your wp-admin dashboard, even if someone knows your WordPress username and password.

How to Enable WP-Admin Protection:

To enable the WP-Admin protection for your WordPress site, follow these steps:

  • Click the Security tab and navigate to the Wp-Admin Protection sub-tab in the Password Protected plugin.
  • Enable the Password Protect WP-Admin Login toggle button. This will activate the admin lock password protection feature.
  • Set your admin lock password from the Set your Admin Lock Password field and confirm your password in the Confirm Password field.
  • Enable or Disable Forgot Password Option. By default, this option is enabled for you, which means you can reset your admin lock password by email if you forget it.
  • Save your Changes to apply those changes.

Now, whenever you try to access your wp-admin login screen, you will see an admin lock screen before it. You will need to enter the wp-admin lock’s password that you set to proceed to the wp-admin login screen.

How to Reset WP-Admin Lock Password:

If you forget your admin lock password, you can reset it by email if the forgot password option is enabled. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Go to the admin lock screen and click the Forgot Password button.
  • Enter your wp-admin email address in the Enter Your WP Admin Email field and click on the Get New Password button. You will receive an email with a link to reset your admin lock password.
  • Click on the link in the email, enter your new password, and confirm it in the Enter Your New Password and Confirm Your New Password fields. Click on the update/Change password button to save your new password.
  • You will receive another email confirming that your admin lock password has been changed successfully.

How to Disable Admin Lock Feature:

If you want to disable this feature, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Security tab of the plugin settings.
  • Click on the WP-Admin Protection sub-tab.
  • Disable the WP-Admin Protection toggle button. This will deactivate the wp-admin password protection feature.
  • Save the changes.

Now, you will no longer see the admin lock password screen, and you will be able to access your wp-admin login screen without any protection.
