Unlock Password Protected Content via Gravity Forms

Now with Password Protected Pro’s Gravity Forms integration, you can turn any form into a secure gateway for protected content. Collect leads, accept payments, or verify passwords, then unlock content or send users a secure bypass Link after a successful submission.

Create seamless access experiences for premium content, private downloads, online courses, client portals, and more. All without relying on the default password screen.

The integration supports two workflows:

1. Unlock Content on Form Submission — Users enter a password inside the form. If the password is correct, the protected content unlocks.
2. Generate Bypass Link After Submission or Payment — A secure bypass Link is generated after form submission or successful payment and can be emailed to the user.

Both workflows are configured in Gravity Forms under Forms → Form Settings → Password Protected.

Requirement

Before configuring the integration, make sure:

• Password Protected Pro Business plan is installed and activated.
• Gravity Forms Pro is installed and activated.
• The Gravity Forms integration is enabled from Password Protected → Integrations.
• The page or post you want to unlock is protected using individual post/page protection.

Note: This integration works only with individual post/page protection.

Step 1: Enable the Gravity Forms Integration

1. In WordPress, go to Password Protected → Integrations.
2. Find the Gravity Forms card.
3. Toggle the Gravity Forms integration to On.

Once enabled, each Gravity Form will include a Password Protected section inside its form settings.

Step 2: Open Password Protected Settings in Gravity Forms

1. Go to Gravity Forms from your WordPress dashboard.
2. Create a new form or open an existing Gravity Form.
3. Navigate to Form Settings → Password Protected.
4. Choose a Form Action from the dropdown.

Form Action	What It Does
Use this form as a central password form	Validates the password entered in the form and unlocks protected content.
Generate a bypass Link after submission/payment	Generates a secure bypass Link after form submission or successful payment.

The settings shown on the screen will change based on the selected action.

Workflow 1: Unlock Content on Form Submission with Password

When to Use

Use this workflow when you want visitors to enter a password inside a Gravity Form before accessing protected content.

This is useful when you want to collect details such as a name, an email address, or consent before granting access.

Configure the Form

• Create or edit a Gravity Form.
• Add a Single-Line Text field to use as the password field. Name the field as Password, then go to Field Settings> Advanced and select Enable Password Input.

• Copy the field ID from the Gravity Forms field settings.
• Go to Form Settings → Password Protected.
• Set Form Action to Use this form as a central password form.
• Confirm Protection Type is set to Individual Page.
• Select the protected post or page from the Protected Post dropdown.
• Enter the Password Field ID.
• Click Save Settings.

Note: Only posts or pages protected through individual post/page protection will appear in the Protected Post dropdown.

What Happens When a User Submits the Form

When the user submits the form, Password Protected checks the entered password against the password configured for the selected protected post or page.

If the password is correct:

• The form submission is accepted.
• The protected content is unlocked.
• An access cookie is set.
• The user is redirected based on Gravity Forms confirmation settings.

If the password is incorrect:

• The form submission is stopped.
• A Gravity Forms validation error appears.
• The protected content remains locked.
• No access cookie is created.

Workflow 2: Generate a Bypass Link After Submission or Payment

When to Use

Use this workflow when you want users to receive a secure bypass Link after submitting a form or completing a transaction.

This is useful for paid content, private downloads, client portals, course pages, reports, or VIP access flows.

Configure the Form

• Create or open the Gravity Form you want to use.
• Add the required fields, such as name, email, product/service, and payment field.

• Go to Form Settings → Password Protected.
• Set Form Action to Generate a bypass Link after submission/payment.
• Select the protected post or page from the Protected Post dropdown.
• If the selected post/page has multiple passwords, select which password to use.
• Review Usage Limit (Clicks) and Expiry.
• Click Save Settings or Update Settings.

Note: Usage Limit and Expiry are retrieved from the chosen protected post or page. To modify these, update the password settings directly on the protected post or page.

Send the Bypass Link via Email Notification

After a successful form submission or payment, Password Protected retrieves the bypass Link for the selected individual-protected post or page and sends it via email.

To send the access Bypass Link to users:

• Go to your Gravity Forms → Notifications settings.
• Open or create the notification that should send the Bypass Link.
• Add the {pp_bypass_link} merge tag to the email body.
• Save the notification.

When the notification is sent, the {pp_bypass_link} merge tag is automatically replaced with the bypass link, allowing users to access the protected content without entering a password.

Note: The bypass link adheres to the configured usage limit and expiry settings for the selected protected Individual post or page. If the notification does not include {pp_bypass_link}, the user will not receive the bypass link.

What Happens When a User Clicks the Bypass Link

When the user clicks the link, Password Protected validates it.

Access is granted when:

• The bypass link is valid.
• The link has not expired.
• The usage limit has not been reached.

Access is denied when:

• The bypass link is invalid.
• The link has expired.
• The usage limit has been reached.

Once validated, the user can access the selected protected content in accordance with the configured access rules.
