Request Access Password

Introduction

The Request Password feature lets users request access to protected content if they don’t already have a password. They can send a request through their email; once the admin approves, the password will be shared via email. If they’ve already used the password and reached its limit, they can also request to reactivate the same one. This helps users access content easily while giving admins better control over who gets in.

Use Case

Imagine a user trying to open a protected page without a password. Instead of getting stuck, they can send a password request through their email. The admin reviews the request and, if approved, sends the password directly to their inbox. If the user already had a password but used up all the allowed views, they can request to reactivate it similarly. This keeps things simple for users and gives admins complete control over access from one place.

Step-by-step Setup Guide:

Enable Request Password Feature

The user will first see the Enable button. To activate this feature on their site, the user must first enable Enable Password Requests.

Then, the user sees the Request for Password hyperlink on their protected site.

After clicking the Request for Password hyperlink, the user sees a new modal to enter their email address. The user submits an email request to access the site using this form.

Once the email address is entered and the user clicks on the Validate your email request button, the user will be sent an email to the admin.

Customize Request Password Content

Now, moving to the WordPress dashboard, the admin can customize the content of the Request Password modal using the Content Customization feature. Navigate to Password Protected Dashboard > Request Password > Password Request to modify the text and layout.

Request Password Approve Reject

  • After the user submits their email address, a system-generated link is sent to their inbox for verification.
  • At the same time, the request is logged under the Requests Password > Requests section in the admin dashboard.
  • Each entry displays the ID, Email, Requested Content, Status, Date and Time, and Action.
  • The admin can approve or reject the request directly from this panel, making access management quick and efficient.
  • Once the admin approves the password request, the request status will update from Pending to Approved, and the password will be generated in the multiple password section.
  • In the Action tab, a Send Email Password button will appear. By clicking this button, the admin sends the user the requested password.

Email Templates

Admins can customize the Email templates to suit their requirements. The Request Password feature uses three essential templates, all of which can be edited with predefined placeholders.
The available templates are:

  • Validation Email
  • Password Request Notification Email
  • Send Password/Content Access Email

These templates support the following placeholders:
{site_name}, {validation_link}, {requested_content}, {user_email_address}, {status}

Reactivating an Expired Password

If the user exhausts all usage limits and the password expires, they can request reactivation through the Request Password feature.

The process will follow the same flow as previously described. However, once the usage limit is reached and the password expires, the admin will see a Resend Email Password button in the Request Password section.

The admin can then click this button to resend the password to the user, allowing them to access the content.
